Fig House was built in 1994 on a property purchased from the Montpelier Plantation Inn. It is designed as a traditional Caribbean country house with large rooms, tall ceilings, and tiled floors. All rooms have direct access to the sheltered pool and patio area, thus creating an indoor/outdoor living space with cross breezes that keep the house cool all year round. Extensive outside galleries protect the indoors from glare and sudden rain showers and provide lounging spaces with splendid views over the pool, the mountainside and the ocean at a distance.
The entry foyer off the front porch is light and airy with rows of glass windows overhead as well as wooden louvered shutters in traditional Caribbean style. The furnishings include some antiques and oriental rugs. Indirect wall lighting is set off by traditional fretwork. The living room wing comes off the foyer as does the bedroom wing, the two wings forming an L surrounding the patio and pool area.
Entering the living room from the foyer we see a large open plan suite of rooms extending through the living room via the dining room to the kitchen and the covered porch overlooking the pool area. Two mahogany French doors lead out to the patio/pool and BBQ area. Relaxing in the comfortably furnished living room guests may enjoy Cable TV, dvd player with selection of movies, a CD player with an extensive classical CD collection, and the owners’ many books.
There is also wireless internet and a Bose system to hook up your mp3 player. The room is always cool; it is cross ventilated and has a tall cathedral ceiling with two ceiling fans. The traditional colonial style formal dining room opens out to the porch and has a separate beer fridge. This table seats ten people when it is fully extended and the room is furnished with stylish artwork and antique furniture.
The porch affords a view of the pool, the Tropical Gardens and the Caribbean. This spot is ideal for dining al fresco, candle lit dinners or a leisurely breakfast, quiet reading or lively parties. It has a serving hatch through to the fully equipped kitchen.
From the pool/patio area there is direct access to the two large bedrooms. The master bedroom is surrounded by a gallery. The second bedroom has direct access to the front entry porch.

The Fig Estate is located on the scenic and tranquil Island of Nevis (sister Island of St. Kitts) in the heart of the Caribbean.
There's something about Nevis...described as ‘one of the last remaining unspoiled places on earth’ this small, sombrero-shaped island grabs you. The charm and tranquillity takes you back to a time when things were simpler, when life was more peaceful, when stress was just a word, not a way of life.
This 36-square-mile island lies near the top of the Lesser Antilles archipelago, about 200 miles south of Puerto Rico, and just west of Antigua. This island jewel is approximately 7 miles long and 5 miles wide, with natural vegetation that is unparalleled.
Green and serene, Nevis is truly one of the remaining unspoilt places and proudly carries the name, "Queen of the Caribees." From the top of the 3,232-foot Nevis Peak to the depths of the clear waters offshore, there is a world of flora and fauna to be explored. In the hills, the comical green vervet monkeys chatter and scamper; in the sea, the whales cruise by. Stroll around and see the architecture of eras gone by: churches, windmills, and refurbished Great Houses.
Its 10,000 residents are friendly and helpful, ready to make new friends and welcome back regular visitors. The genuine charm and hospitality radiate throughout the isle like they say on Nevis: 'You're only a stranger here once.'
Nevis is truly enchanting, a place that will seduce you, and tug at your heart strings after you leave.
The land for Fig Estate was originally purchased from the Montpelier Plantation Inn and is located on the southern slope of Nevis Peak, overlooking the mountainside and the Caribbean sea at a distance. These charming picturesque houses are available for private rental, either separately or together.
- Household Linens and cleaning 3 times a week.
- Housekeeper can also provde cooking/babysitting on request.
*Fig House is rented with private, exclusive use of the pool. Fig Cottage is the neighbouring property and is also available to rent. The house and cottage are never rented to separate parties at the same time, however the owners may be in residence in one or the other, ceding exclusive use of the pool to house renters.
- The owners have a young child and are very safety conscious. Therefore they only accept children to the villa if they are properly supervised. Pool alarms and safety gates are installed for small children. However the pool is beside the house and there is a pond and cactuses within the garden. This means the property is not suitable for young children unless under adult supervision at all times. Though as the owners do have a young child themselves there are garden games available for children!
